The United Nations Mission in South Sudan-Ghana Battalion (UNMISS GHANBATT) 10 hosted a friendly football match between the GHANBATT team and its adopted local football team – the GHANBATT STARS – on Saturday 3 December 2022 at the Bentiu Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDP) Camp.

The match was hosted in line with the GHANBATT’s planned Civil/Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities.

The event was graced by the Sector
Commander (Sect Comd) – Brigadier General Mike Cooper Mujuni who doubled as the Guest of Honour.

The match proved to be an exciting one, where GHANBATT 10 won 2-1 and afforded GHANBATT the opportunity to interact and deepen the existing relationship with the local team.

The gesture by GHANBATT 10 was well-received by the Bentiu Community and attracted thousands of spectators who surrounded the field to enjoy the game.

On conclusion of the game, the Sect Comd, assisted by the Commanding Officer, GHANBATT 10 – Lieutenant Colonel Prince Tandoh, made a presentation of football gear including 2 sets of jerseys, 20 pairs of football cleats, 18 pairs of football hoses, 2 footballs and a trophy to the GHANBATT STARS in support of the local Bentiu League.

The GHANBATT STARS team was founded by GHANBATT 7 in 2019 and has been supported by subsequent GHANBATTs since then.
