Ghanaian Battalion 11 (GH 11) serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has held its maiden durbar to formerly welcome troops of the GHANBATT to the peacekeeping theatre, with the Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah spelling out his command philosophy necessary for the attainment of the mission.
At the durbar on Friday 20 October 2023, at the Battalion Headquarters in Bentiu, South Sudan, Lt Col Ampomah entreated Officers and Soldiers of the ‘Ready and Willing’ fraternity to remain professional and resolute, in attaining the GHANBATT’s mission and vision since they form integral part of the Battalion.

The CO stated that, his mission was to maintain disciplined, highly motivated Officers and Soldiers with a sense of initiative and winning attitude, ready to undertake all assigned duties with priority on force protection to ensure a successful mission accomplishment, under a vision to maintain a highly professional and equipped GHANBATT, efficient and capable of undertaking all assigned tasks to accomplish the assigned mission.
He continued to say that, the achievement of the mission and vision is underpinned by the core values which include the welfare of troops, mutual respect, sense of initiative, professionalism, respect for locals and UN staff amongst others.

He thus encouraged personnel of the GHANBATT to exercise their sense of initiative and remain discipline and professional in the discharge of their duties, whiles exercising self-restraint at all times and abide by the Command Policy Guidelines.
He further admonished troops to be mindful of their health by partaking actively in the GHANBATT physical training programs and to avoid excessive intake of alcohol.
