UNMISS GH 11 DONATES IMMENSELY IN MARCH 2024 TO S/SUDAN COMMUNITIES

The Engagement Platoon and Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) team of United Nations Missions in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 11 under the auspices of the Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah, have displayed series of charitable gestures as Ghanaian Peacekeepers, to some deprived communities in South Sudan, in March 2024.

Aside focusing on their mandate priorities, which include protection of civilians by conducting all forms of patrols including but not limited to short duration patrols, integrated patrols and dynamic air patrols GHANBATT11 also supports deprived communities with basic necessities to survive.

The CIMIC activities were conducted after the Engagement Platoon’s series of accurate and timely information gathering on the dire needs of these communities, which include the celebration of the global annual International Women’s Day, where the team educated students of Bentiu Girls School in Unity State, South Sudan on menstrual hygiene.

They also donated over 80 sanitary pads, Holy Bibles, and stationeries to some teenagers of the school, whiles the GHANBATT, led by the CO, also supplied 3,500 litres of potable water and 90 jerrycans for water storage, for the populace of Guit Junction in Unity State.

Additionally, the CO, leading the CIMIC team, donated stationeries such as exercise books, rulers, pens, pencils, boxes of chalks, whiteboard markers and whiteboards, to the Kondial Primary School in Bentiu, Unity State.

Presenting the items to the school, the Lt Col emphasized the importance of education and hence his resolve to meet one of the basic needs of the school, and entreated the students to approach their education with all seriousness, so that they could realize their future aspirations.

Receiving the items, the headteacher of the school – Mr Bath Gat Reah Gai thanked the CO for this benevolence and timely delivery of the items, and asked for God’s blessings for the entire battalion, assuring that the items would be used for the purposes for which they were delivered.
