Muslims of the “Ready and Willing” fraternity – 1 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Army, which forms the nucleus of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 11 – have marked a successful month-long Ramadan with Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations, after one-month of fasting and prayers.

At a prayer held on Wednesday 10 April 2024, at the Battalion Headquarters (BNHQ) Bentiu, South Sudan to terminate the fasting, the GHANBATT Imam – Lieutenant (Lt) Sahmu-Deen Ridwan, expressed that although Ramadan 2024 has ended, all must continue to stay steadfast and observe the subsequent fasting and optional prayers as Muslims, to achieve piety as stipulated in the Muslim Calendar.

He added that the Ramadan period required a practice devoid of vices thus charged them to continue to live a chaste life, and to continue to share love, tolerance and be happy because it was a day every Muslim must enjoy, albeit within the confines of Islam.

The Commanding Officer (CO), UNMISS GH 11 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah read the Chief of the Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces’ Eid-Ul-Fitr message to all Muslims, and expressed honor to be part of the celebration, and urged all to live in harmony and continue to reflect the lessons learnt during the 30 days of fasting and prayers.
