UNMISS GH11 INDUCTS CO, CONSECRATES COLOURS

United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion 11 (GHANBATT 11) has held its Consecration of Colours and Induction and Religious Parade, after the completion of three days of fasting and prayers, to officially induct its Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah into office.

The religious service, which was held on Sunday, 22 October 2023, at the GHANBATT Headquarters in Bentiu, South Sudan, under the theme: “Unity in Diversity”, also marked the successful insertion of GHANBATT 11 into the Area of Operational Responsibility (AoR).

In his remarks, Lt Col Ampomah expressed gratitude to God for travelling mercies for the entire battalion, and the smooth and seamless transition of responsibilities from the defunct GHANBATT 10, to GHANBATT 11.

He stated that, the Induction Service and Consecration of Colours was the climax of the series of ceremonial and religious activities that characterised the month-long period of transition, and that although he had received the Command Baton and the Pascal light, it was his utmost quest to begin the tour of his Battalion with God.

He assured all and sundry of GHANBATT 11’s readiness and willingness to maintain and continue the legacy of GHANBATT 10, in the pursuit of the Mission success and for the collective success of Sector Unity.

Lt Col Dominic Ampomah further said that, it was his mission to maintain a disciplined and highly motivated Officers and Soldiers with a sense of initiative and winning attitude, ready to undertake all assigned task with priority on force protection, for a successful mission accomplishment.

He urged personnel of the ‘Ready and Willing’ fraternity to maintain a high level of espirit de-corps, professionalism, being resolute, having respect for one another, in addition to every virtue, in the discharge of their duties.

The Guest of Honour for the parade, and the Sector Unity Commander – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Emmanuel Rugazora, entreated Lt Col Ampomah to strive to be an astute leader, and focus on leading GHANBATT on the path towards achieving its mission successfully.

Brig Gen Rugazora pledged his support to assist GHANBATT to execute its mission in his capacity as the Sector Commander, and charged the troops to contribute their best to the GHANBATT in achieving its mandate.

Other dignitaries present at the service were Senior Military Liaison Officer, the Deputy Sector Commander, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana Formed Police Unit, the Commanding Officer of the Vietnam Level II Hospital, representatives of Pakistan Engineering Task Force, the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), UN Police (UNPOL), Staff Officers from Sector Unity Headquarters amongst others.
