Office of the Security Cooperation Department of Defence, United States of America (USA) has handed over a 60-bed mobile field Level II Plus Hospital to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Tamale.
The field hospital handed over on Thursday 5 September 2024, at Nyesie, Tamale, includes intensive care unit, two surgical operating rooms, x-ray, laboratory, morgue, emergency room, and two generator sets, and can house up to 60 patients for full medical and operational needs.

Ghana’s Minister for Defence – Mr Dominic Nitiwul, upon receiving the facility on behalf of the Government of Ghana and its Armed Forces, expressed his gratitude to the US Government for the generous donation, and said the gift will enhance the ability to deliver quality healthcare to personnel of 6 Garrison and the civilian populace in the region.
The Minister added that, the facility would also enrich the health sector’s capability to achieve universal health coverage in the region, with the view to becoming a major Trauma Hospital in the Northern Sector of Ghana.
The USA Ambassador to Ghana – Her Excellency Virginia Palmer expressed pride in the long-standing security cooperation partnership between the United States and Ghana.
She noted that her Government is focused on supporting Ghana by working together on regional security, and investing in the people, through a long-term development relationship and protecting democratic institutions.

Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Medical, Major General Raymond Ewusi said the handing over of the facility is evidence to the strong bond and shared values of service, sacrifice, and compassion between the two countries.
Present at the Ceremony included Ghana’s Northern Regional Minister – Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaidu; Municipal Chief Executive Hon Yakubu Ahmed Mohammed; DCOS, Logistics – Rear Admiral Samuel Agyenim-Boateng, Commander, Air Force Base, Tamale – Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai; General Officer Commanding, Northern Command – Brigadier General Frank Tei;
Others were representatives from Security Services, Damankunyili Naa Saidu Mahama, Nyesie Naa Abdulai Mahami, Officers, Soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff and residents of 6 Garrison.
