A delegation from the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), led by the US Ambassador to Ghana – Her Excellency Virginia Palmer paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at the General Headquarters on Tuesday, 27 August 2024.
According to the US AFRICOM Coordination Lead – Major General Keneth Ekman, the visit was to congratulate Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah on his elevation to the highest rank and appointment in the GAF and to discuss regional security issues of mutual benefit.


He mentioned that, the US government remains committed to offering assistance in areas of training, logistics, plans and policy in combating threats emanating from the Sahel region.
Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah expressed gratitude for the visit and praised the role of the US in providing support to the GAF.

He noted that training has improved the capabilities of soldiers, particularly the Army Special Operations Brigade, and called for further collaboration between the two Armed Forces.
