The Veterans’ Administration, Ghana’s (VAG) decision to furnish its healthcare centre at Amasaman, in the Ghana North District of Ghana, through internally generated funds (IGF), has attracted some level of support from concerned institutions and persons.
VAG announced its intention at the launch of the 2023 POPPY APPEAL, which was held on Friday October 13, 2023, at the Retired Commissioned Officers’ Clubhouse, North Ridge, Accra, with a fund-raiser and a band concert performance by the Armed Forces Central Band (AFCB).

Ghana’s Minister for Health – Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, who pledged GH¢100,000, and GH¢10,000, on behalf of his Ministry and himself, respectively, commended VAG for its intentions to refurbish the clinic, saying that the resultant would be the reduction in workload at the 37 Military Hospital, Accra.
Some other organizations such as Ghana’s Ministry for Defence and the Ghana Immigration Service, pledged to support the association financially, while Ghana’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, pledged GH¢200,000 for furnishing the infirmary.

The Executive Director, VAG – Captain (Capt) Edmund Ben Duah (Rtd), rehashed the antecednets of Poppy Day – which he said began after World War I, in the Nineteenth Century, a period during which funds were raised to support war veterans, and has now been extended for all retired military personnel, and thus urged the general public to contribute their quota.
He acknowledged contributions from organizations such as the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Ministry for Defence, and Faith Montessori, among others, stating that when commissioned, the health centre would offer professional health service to ex-servicemen, servicemen, and their families.
