His Excellency (HE) Dr Goodluck Jonathan – Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and HE Kadre Ouedraogo – Former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, have paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) – Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane.
Discussions, during the visit on Tuesday 8 October 2024, focused on the upcoming West African Elders Forum (WAEF) Strategy Meeting, which will be held in Accra, Ghana, from 9th to 10th October 2024.

The Elders’ – led by HE Jonathan – visit to Accra is part of a pre-election assessment mission, where WAEF members are meeting with key stakeholders, to ensure peaceful and democratic processes in the West African region.
WAEF was established to bring together Senior West African statesmen and women, as well as prominent opinion leaders, to play key roles in mediation, conflict resolution, and election-related peace processes, to promote democracy, peace, and security across the region.

Since its inception in 2020, WAEF has actively contributed to peaceful elections in a number of countries, including The Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and most recently, Senegal.
