WORLD WAR II VETERAN LAUDS CDS GAF

Ghana’s sole surviving World War II veteran – Ex-Warrant Officer Class I (Ex-WOI) Ashitey Hammond Joseph, paid a courtesy call on Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, to congratulate the CDS on his elevation to the highest rank and appointment in Ghana’s military.

Ex-WOI Ashitey, on Tuesday, 29 October 2024 at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, praised Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah’s exemplary leadership, presenting him with a memoir titled “My Voice My Story”. 

He also requested the CDS to chair the sod- cutting ceremony for his upcoming hospital project in Burma Camp.

The CDS assured the veteran of his support and commitment to the successful completion of the hospital project, and urged Officers and Soldiers, to emulate Ex-WOI Ashitey’s remarkable character, hailing him as a unique individual with exemplary military ethics.

Ex-WOI Ashitey Hammond Joseph, born in 1925, is a renowned Ghanaian World War II veteran and fundraiser, who served in the Gold Coast Regiment, and was honored with the Commonwealth Points of Light award, for his COVID-19 fundraising initiative.
